My Dad Taught Me How To Pluck My Eyebrows

How I maintain and fill my eyebrows

I had a unibrow at age 11.

And I'll never forget my dad handing me a pair of tweezers and showing me how to get rid of it.

For a long time I hated plucking because, ouch, in middle school I used a razor to shave my unibrow making my eyebrows way too far apart, so terrible.

I was probably 13 when I stopped using my razor and went in to get my eyebrows professionally done. But, I was on the black list for waxing because of all the acne medication I used, which meant I had to get my eyebrows threaded.

Shout out to the eyebrow technician who refused to fulfill my skinny eyebrow dreams.  She insisted that my thick eyebrows were beautiful. I hated them. My emotional 13-year-old self cried (DUH) because she wouldn't make them skinny, but now I cry out of gratitude.

Eyebrow Maintenance

I think threading is painful, so I learned how to pluck my own eyebrows.

If you haven't already seen this a million times this is eyebrow 101 for the general shape of your brow. (Thanks Google for the pic.)

QUICK TIP: Fill your eyebrows before you pluck, because it's easy to get carried away.

The last time I paid someone to do my eyebrows was probably 6 years ago. IMO, all you need is a good pair of tweezers, a magnification mirror and a tiny pair of scissors to trim the hairs that grow straight up.

I love this little mirror! It's 15X magnification so I can only look at one eyebrow at a time but the magnifier combined with the light makes it perfect for getting all the little hairs that go unnoticed in a regular mirror. Get it at Bed Bath and B…

Close up of the scissors and tweezers, I'll talk more about the makeup later.

I like tweezers with a slant, I'm like 90% sure these are the exact ones I have, $1.92 at Target. The tiny scissors I have are the kind included in mini-manicure kits. Target has rose gold ones right now and every time I see them I want them haha, $5.99

eyebrow filling

  • A good eyebrow brush is the key to success. Combing your eyebrows can make a world of a difference. A lot of the time I just use hairspray and a comb to make my eyebrow hairs stay in place.
    • I have a cheep set of 24 makeup brushes from Amazon and there's a brow brush that came in that set. BUT, my favorite brush is the one on the end of the NYX Micro Brow Pencil ($10). I bought this in Brunette and the color is too light for my eyebrows, which is disappointing because I think it would work well, but the brush is amaze.
  • There's a million different eyebrow products out there, recently I've really like NYX Tint & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade in Espresso ($7). A little goes a long way and I use a small slanted brush to fill my brows, I don't use a lot because my eyebrows can quickly look overwhelming.
